Another cost effective, yet elegant house designed by the Architect. Client’s major concern was to make a house where he can enjoy with his loving family.
The client intended to limit the house to a single story. While keeping more green garden space, the house was designed with maximum space utilization and efficient planning; where natural lighting and ventilation is obtained with passive building design strategies. Building orientation and strategic positioning of openings and planned spaces were the key elements of such strategies.
The land had a natural slope with Kabook soil where architect decided to utilize the levels without going into cut-and-fill operations. This made the spaces to be visually connected with a physical disconnection, which was ideal for the separation of semi-public and private zones of the house; allowing the users have ultimate connection with every space visually.
The land was located within the suburbs of Piliyandala, which had more secluded characteristics like in a village. The front facade was faced parallel to the access road, which allowed ventilation from the road also. Thus, unlike an urban residential design, the house incorporated a steel grill with strategic positioning of solid and void combinations, that promotes ventilation while keeping privacy. During construction, the design of said grill work has been changed.
The house construction successfuly completed in 2017.
